Nathalie Mejia-Zec
Trumpeter and educator Nathalie Mejia-Zec is a versatile performer and passionate advocate for music education. With a career spanning orchestral, chamber, and solo performance, she brings energy and artistry to the stage while shaping the next generation of musicians in the classroom.
Nathalie performs regularly with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra as a substitute player and has appeared with ensembles such as the Orchestra of Northern New York, Long Island Festival Orchestra, the Lubbock Chorale and Orchestra, and Northern Symphonic Winds. She is also an active chamber musician, performing with The Calla Project, which recently held a residency with the University of Utah Trumpet Guild. Her performances have taken her to festivals and competitions across the country and internationally, including the National Trumpet Competition, where she was a semi-finalist in the Graduate Solo and Large Ensemble divisions, and the BAC Credomatic Music Festival in Costa Rica.
Beyond performing, Nathalie is a dedicated music educator, currently serving as Head Band Director at Atkins Middle School in Lubbock ISD. She has also taught at Shallowater ISD and Potsdam Central Schools, leading band, choir, and general music classes across various grade levels. A strong advocate for inclusive and engaging music education, she believes in fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in her students.
With a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Ithaca College and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, Nathalie continues to balance her love for performing and teaching, inspiring audiences and students alike.
